I was in the same place myself a few years ago.
I was juggling running a business, being a single mum, a break-up, being stalked, harassed, and a DUI charge amongst other issues….all the while keeping up the appearance of having it altogether. I was the typical party girl, everybody’s best friend. Yet nobody knew the real me. I was slowly dying inside.
Things only changed for me when I hit rock bottom, and finally quit drinking.
I had tried to control my drinking many times before of course…..
Maybe you can relate……..

I thought about only drinking at weekends
BUT, by Tuesday evening I was feeling much better and after all, a few won’t hurt…..I could always cut down next week.

I considered limiting myself to a few glasses of wine..
BUT, as soon as I started drinking, this idea went completely out the window. After all, Everybody else was drinking and having fun. Why couldn’t I?

I even thought about Stopping drinking altogether
BUT, after successfully completing a few Dry Januarys, my drinking quickly returned to how it was before, usually worse as I realised I had some catching up to do!

I began to notice a constant, creeping feeling of anxiety. I never slept through the night. All areas of my life began to deteriorate. I really hated myself!
My relationships suffered and I felt a sense of shame and guilt. I was hiding the true extent of my drinking from everybody. I was also fat and bloated, constantly about 20lbs over my ideal weight!
I FELT COMPLETELY HOPELESS AND OUT OF CONTROL!
I couldn’t keep pretending I was ‘FINE’.
I realised that I had to take control of my drinking before it ruined my life!
I asked myself….
There must be an easier way? I can’t spend the rest of my life obsessing over drinking!
And that’s when I realised………
ALCOHOL WAS CAUSING ME BIG PROBLEMS!
BUT it was what I had ALWAYS used to try and solve my problems…
CLEARLY it wasn’t working!!
What if I could find a better, healthier way of living life WITHOUT relying on Alcohol?

So I decided to make some changes.
I quit drinking…… but this time I also…..
- Entered into a 12 step recovery program
- Worked massively on my mental health
- Practiced CBT
- Accepted and integrated my shadow self
- Looked at my attachment style
- Implemented self-care routines
And the best part?
My mind is free from the addiction cycle.
I have….
- Learnt how to deal with stress in a productive, healthy way
- Connected with people on a whole new level
- Built a thriving, professional business in alignment with my values
- Dropped my excess weight for good!
- Become happy and confident being my authentic self
- Not drunk alcohol since January 2020!!

It is my experience that through self-love and dropping the false self, addictive behaviours disappear. There is no need for will-power as there are no cravings to overcome.
So often in life, experiences teach us to hide our true selves out of fear of rejection. My job is to work through these issues and uncover the awesome star you really are!
I believe that every person is unique and beautiful as their authentic selves. Just like the colours of an exquisite painting, if we were all the same, life would be very boring. We are here to celebrate uniqueness and diversity.
