I was in the same place myself a few years ago.
I was juggling running a business, being a single mum and a break-up….all the while keeping up the appearance of having it altogether. I was the typical nice girl, everybody’s best friend. Yet nobody saw the real me. I found life completely over-whelming. I spent evenings and weekends glued to the sofa watching re-runs of old tv shows, drinking far too much wine. Telling myself that tomorrow I was starting over.
I would watch countless YouTube videos on quitting drinking, diets, productivity….I was an expert in theory! So why wasn’t anything shifting? I knew that if I implemented (and stuck with) just a few ideas my life would improve dramatically. And even more frustratingly, I knew that it could happen in quite a short space of time.
So why wasn’t I doing it? Why did I always choose instead to watch TV in my pyjamas with a tub of ice-cream and bottle of wine for good measure? I KNEW this made me feel terrible and hate myself afterwards!
I had tried to get out of this slump and back in control many times before of course…..
Maybe you can relate……..

You plan to go to the gym after work, do some healthy meal prep, drink more water, go to bed on time….
BUT, you keep putting it off, spend another night on the sofa and it’s turning into frustration and self-loathing as you watch yourself not follow through.

You have tried to cut down on alcohol…again
BUT, as soon as you have your ‘one glass’, this idea goes completely out the window. After all, Everybody else is drinking and having fun. Why shouldn’t you? You can always start again tomorrow…

You have told yourself that you will quit wasting hours on your phone….
BUT, each time you think a few minutes won’t hurt….. hours later you are back down a rabbit hole watching TikTok videos about cats! This just leads to self hatred (again) and beating yourself up about having no self discipline.

I began to notice a constant, creeping feeling of anxiety. I always went to bed far too late and woke up groggy, depressed and unmotivated. All areas of my life began to deteriorate. I really hated myself.
My relationships suffered and I felt a sense of shame and guilt. I was hiding away from everybody, declining invitations and not replying to texts for days on end. I was also fat and bloated, constantly about 20lbs over my ideal weight.
I FELT COMPLETELY HOPELESS AND OUT OF CONTROL!
I couldn’t keep pretending I was ‘FINE’. Each time I lied to my friends and family I lost faith in myself. I didn’t like this version of me at all.
I realised that I had to take control of my destructive habits before they ruined my life.
I asked myself….
There must be an easier way? I can’t spend the rest of my life ‘starting tomorrow’
And that’s when I realised………
MY DESTRUCTIVE HABITS WERE CAUSING ME BIG PROBLEMS!
BUT they were my go-to COMFORT that I used to cope with the overwhelm I was feeling…
CLEARLY something wasn’t working!!
What if I could find a better, healthier way of living life WITHOUT defaulting to my self-sabotaging behaviours, binge watching TV, doom-scrolling, alcohol and ice-cream?

So I decided to make some changes.
But this time it was different…..
- Created a daily habit tracker, focused on micro habits
- Looked at how my destructive habits had served me in the past, and released the need for them.
- Did a deep dive into issues I had been avoiding, and reasons why.
- Accepted and integrated my shadow self
- Quit drinking completely (and don’t miss it one bit!)
- Implemented self-care routines
- Developed relationships with people in alignment with my greatest vision for myself.
And the best part?
My mind is finally free from anxiety, I am living the life I dreamed of AND loving myself for it!
I have….
- Become happy and confident being my authentic self
- Dropped my excess weight for good!
- Built a thriving, professional business in alignment with my values
- Connected with people on a whole new level
- Learnt how to deal with stress in a productive, healthy way
- Not drunk alcohol since January 2020!!

It is my experience that through self-love and dropping the false self, addictive behaviours disappear. There is no need for will-power as there are no cravings to overcome.
So often in life, experiences teach us to hide our true selves out of fear of rejection. My job is to work through these issues and uncover the awesome star you really are!
I believe that every person is unique and beautiful as their authentic selves. Just like the colours of an exquisite painting, if we were all the same, life would be very boring. We are here to celebrate uniqueness and diversity.
